Sikkim ration card is as an official document that grants food grains and fuel at a subsidised rate from the Sikkim State Government. Ration card is also often used as an identification proof while applying for domicile certificate, income certificate, drivers license, PAN, etc. The Department of Food and Civil Supplies issues ration card in Sikkim to the residents of the state. In this article, we view the procedure for obtaining a Sikkim ration card.
Benefits of Ration Card
Any person holding ration card in Sikkim has the following benefits:
Identity proof
Ration card helps to prove an individual’s identity and ration card can be used as an identification proof in availing subsidies from the Government to the citizens of the state. It is also used as an identity proof for an entire family as it contains details about the number of income levels, family member, gender, photographs, etc.
Residence Proof
Ration card is required in the case of providing proof of residential address to secure loans from the banks, and it can be used as a residence proof while buying or selling of property. Also, Aadhar card can be linked to ration card.
Types Of Ration Card
The Sikkim Government issues three types of ration cards to citizens depending upon the economic status of the applicant.

1. | BPL (Below Poverty Line) cards. | The BPL cards are provided to the citizens who live below the poverty line, and their annual income is less than Rs. 10,000/- |
2. | APL (Above Poverty Line) cards | The citizens of Sikkim who are above the poverty line and have their annual income above Rs. 10,000 can hold APL cards. |
3. | Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards. | The citizens of Sikkim who are economically weaker and do not have any stable income source will hold AAY cards. |
Subsidy provided
Antodaya Annadan yojana ration card are entitled to 35 kgs of rice at free of cost.
APL (Above Poverty Line) ration card are entitled to wholemeal atta at Rs.8 per kg.
BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration card are entitled to 35 kgs of rice at Rs.4 per kg.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a ration card in the state of Sikkim, the applicant needs to satisfy the following conditions:
- The citizens must not already have a ration card.
- Applicant must be relating to the economically weaker sections of the society.
- The applicant can have temporary ration cards or past expired ration card.
- Couples who got recently married in the state can apply for ration card.
Documents Required
when applying for a ration card in Sikkim, furnish the following documents along with the application form:
Identification Proof
- Voter Identity card
- PAN card
- Passport
- Family members passport size photograph.
- Bank passport
Residence Proof
- Aadhaar card
- LPG connection details.
- Electricity and telephone bill.
- Agreement of house.
Age Proof
- Birth certificate
- School leaving certificate.
Government Fee
The citizen of the Sikkim state applies for a new ration card without remitting any application fee for it.
Validity of Ration Card
Sikkim ration card is valid for five years. Therefore, the applicant can renew the card by applying again for a ration card.
Concerned Authority
The Officer of Civil and Food Supplies Department under Targeted Public Distribution System is responsible for the allocation of Sikkim ration card.
Applying Procedure for Sikkim Ration Card
To register for ration card in Sikkim, follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit the Official website
The applicant has to visit the official website of the Food and Civil Supplies department under Sikkim Government.
Step 2: Download Form
Click on “Download forms” option which is visible on the home page of the portal.
Step 3: Form for new ration card
Now click on “Form for new ration card” so that the applicant can able to download the ration card application form.
Step 4: Complete the Details
The applicant needs to enter the details of family members apart from personal information.
Step 5: Attach the Documents
Now attach the required documents along with the application form.
Step 6: Submit the Form
On filing the application form, then the applicant has to submit the application form to the nearby ration card office in your area.
Step 7: Acknowledgement Slip
Upon submission, the applicant will be provided with acknowledgement slip for further reference.
Step 8: Issuance of Certificate
Then the concerned authority after verification will issue the ration card to the applicant.
Track Application Status
Follow the below-specified steps to check the status of an application for Sikkim ration card online.
Step 1: Visit the official website of Food and civil supplies of Sikkim Government.
Step 2: Click on “Ration Card” option from the menu on the homepage.
Step 3: Then select For viewing the beneficiaries list of AAY & PHH list and then click on “Ration card details” option.
Step 4: Choose your District, Taluka/Tehsil, FPFS ID/ FPS Owner name and then check your ration card number.
Step 5: Click on view your ration card, and then the applicant can view their ration application status.
