Chhattisgarh Birth Certificate

In India, it is mandatory under the Registration of Births & Deaths Act, 1969 to register every Birth with the state Government within 21 days of its occurrence. Upon registering the birth, Government issues a birth certificate to the residents of Chhattisgarh to establish the date and place of one's Birth. A birth certificate is an important legal document that serves as a proof of identity or age proof in various circumstances.  Late on, it becomes to have a birth certificate to avail multiple benefits and services offered by the Government. In this article, we look at the procedure for obtaining Chhattisgarh birth certificate in detail.

Registration of Birth & Deaths Act, 1969

Registration of Birth & Deaths Act, 1969 regulates the process of birth and death registration in India. As stated above, according to the Registration of Birth & Deaths Act, every birth of the child should be registered with the Government of Chhattisgarh within 21 days of the occurrence.

Reasons to Obtain Birth Certificate

Importance of obtaining a birth certificate in Chhattisgarh is explained in detail below.
  • A birth certificate is mandatory for acquiring the right to vote.
  • A birth certificate is compulsory for settlement of inheritance and property rights.
  • To get admission in schools, the birth certificate has to be produced.
  • To get a driving licence and passport, a birth certificate has to be furnished.
  • The birth certificate needs to be provided to enter into military service.
  • The birth certificate also is necessary to claim the right to marry at the legally permissible age.
  • The birth certificate has to be produced to avail Government pension, social security or health insurance.
  • The birth certificate is one of the mandatory documents to receive insurance benefits.
To apply for a Chhattisgarh Birth Certificate, first, register the Birth. The Concerned Authority for recording Birth in Chhattisgarh is below.
  • Rural - Local Thana In-charge (police station)
  • Urban - Registrar, Birth and Death, Local Municipal Office

Registering a Birth

The childbirth can be registered without the name under section 14 of the Registration of Birth and Death Act. Free name can be inscribed for a period of up to 1 year.

Fee for Birth Registration/Certificate

The registration of Birth and death by Chhattisgarh Government has been done entirely free for the next five years from the date of 05.11.2014 including delayed registration, available certificate and search fees. As a result, the applicant will not be charged for issuance of birth certificate in Chhattisgarh.

Documents Required

To register and obtain a birth certificate in Chhattisgarh, the following documents have to be submitted.
  • Affidavit
  • Birth notice form
  • Order of First Class Magistrate or any Executive Magistrate
  • Additional documents
  • Parent's identity proof for verification
  • Parents' birth certificate or SSC marks 
  • Parent's marriage certificate

Time Frame

Chhattisgarh birth certificate will be issued within seven days from the date of application.

Birth Registration in Chhattisgarh – Offline Method

Process for registering the Birth in Chhattisgarh is explained in detail below. As stated above, the Birth of newborn has to be registered with the local authorities within twenty-one days of its occurrence, by filling up an application form in the prescribed format by the Registrar (refer above to know the relevant jurisdiction). Documents, as mentioned above, have to be furnished. Parent need to submit an affidavit or written document from parched / Sarpanch if a child is born at home.  If the child is born at the hospital, the applicant has to submit discharge slip, i.e., Birth notice form for registering such Birth. Birth Certificate will be issued after verification with the actual records of the concerned hospital. In case the Birth has not been registered within the specified time of its occurrence, the certificate will be issued after due police verification ordered by the revenue authorities. Register Birth and Get Birth Certificate – Online Method

Once the registration, as mentioned above procedures are completed, the birth certificate can be downloaded easily through the e-District portal. Follow the steps given below to download the birth certificate.

Access e-District Portal

Step 1: Visit the homepage of the e-District portal for applying birth certificate. Step 2:  Select certificate services from the menu. The link will redirect to the new page. User Registration

Step 4: Select Citizen from the Login options. Click on the option Click Here for New Registration. Step 6: Upon clicking on citizen's registration page will appear, provide some details for user registration such as Username, Name, Password, District, Security Question, Security Answer, Mobile number, Email and Aadhaar Card Number. Login to Portal

Provide Details

Step 9:  Provide the following details for registration and to obtain the birth certificate.
  • Month and Year of Birth
  • Gender of child
  • Name of father, mother and child
  • Place of Birth
  • Address at the time of Birth
  • Permanent Address
  • Hospital Name

Submit Application

Step 10: After providing all mandatory details, click on submit. After verification with the actual records of the concerned hospital, the applicant can collect the birth certificate.

Get Acknowledgement Slip

Once the application has successfully submitted, acknowledgement slip with application number will be displayed. Take a print of this slip. Keep it safe for future reference.

Status of Application

 Through SMS to the registered mobile number, the applicant will receive updates regarding the application status. Also, the applicant can track your application status online via the e-District portal. Download Birth Certificate

On approval of the application, the applicant will get an SMS to the registered mobile number. Then the concerned authority will update the birth details in the state records birth records. By log in, to the e-District portal, you can download Chhattisgarh birth certificate.
