Marriage registration certificate can be obtained in India for various purposed like visa application, immigration purpose, PAN name change, etc., Marriage registration is done by the Registration Department in every state through the Sub-Registrar office. In this article, we look at the procedure fro obtaining marriage registration certificate in Tamilnadu for a Hindu marriage and special marriage.
Hindu Marriage Registration Certificate
For a Hindu marriage, the following conditions must be satisfied by the bride and groom:
- Marriages solemnised under Hindu customs
- Both of them should be Hindus
- Present a proof of marriage
- Bridegroom should have completed 21 years and bride should have completed 18 years
- Any one of the following places should fall within the jurisdiction of the Registering Officer:
- Residence of bridegroom
- Residence of bride
- Solemnisation place
Special Marriage Registration Certificate
For a special marriage to be registered, following conditions must be satisfied:
- Bridegroom should have completed 21 years and bride should have completed 18 years
- Any one of the following places should fall within the jurisdiction of the Registering Officer:
- Residence of bridegroom
- Residence of bride
- Solemnisation place
In case of special marriage, notice of intended marriage is first provided. If there are no objections for the marriage within 30 days from the notice, marriage will be registered .
Documents Required for Marriage Registration
The marriage registration requires any one of the following documents from each category.
Four passport size photos of the groom and bride.
Proof of Marriage
- Wedding Invitation
- Temple Marriage Receipts
- Any other proof of marriage solemnisation
Residence
- Identity Card of both the Groom or Bride
- Ration Card of both the Groom or Bride
- Driving License of both the Groom or Bride
- Passport or Visa of both Groom or Bride
Age
- Birth Certificate of the Groom or Bride
- School or College Certificate of the Groom or Bride
- Passport or Visa of the Groom and Bride
