Invest India Programme

Invest India programme was developed by the Department for the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. Invest India focuses on targeting investors on sector-specific, and development of investments through new partnerships in India. Further to sustainable investments, Invest India also partners with multilateral organizations and substantial investment promotion agencies. Also, this programme actively works on building global practices in targeting, promotion and facilitation in several Indian states.

About the Programme

  • The ‘Invest India’ is one of India’s official agency that is dedicated to investment facilitation and promotion.
  • Improving FDI growth through the FDI policy liberalization by improvements in the easiness of doing business that has resulted in the unprecedented growth of the total FDI inflows.
  • The Invest India programme is a not for profit entity. It provides sector and specific state inputs and other supports to investors throughout the entire investment cycle. Moreover, all the efforts like providing assistance and facilitation support that are made by the ‘Invest India’ programme under the ‘Make in India’ programme.
  • Department for Internal Trade and Promotion of Industry conducts a regular review of the performance of Invest India Programme.
  • The Invest India programme is the official Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of Central Government, that has to facilitate investments in the country.

FDI Entry Routes Into India

The Investment climate in India has considerably improved since the opening up of the economy in 1991. This is largely attributed to the ease in FDI norms across the various sectors of the economy. India is now a part of top 100 clubs on Ease of Doing Business (EoDB). CATEGORY 1
  • 100% FDI Permitted through Automatic Route
CATEGORY 2
  • Up to 100% FDI Permitted through Government Route
CATEGORY 3
  • Upto 100% FDI Permitted through Government + Automatic Route

Automatic Route

Indian company or the non-resident investor does not require any approval from the central Government of India for the investment.

Government Route

Prior to any investment, approval from the Government of India is mandatory. The respective Administrative Ministry or Department consider proposals for foreign investment that are under Government route. The Programme Also Assists With Other Such Services Including:
  • Ideal location identification.
  • Assisting in the process of getting expediting regulatory approvals facilitating meetings with relevant government and corporate officials.
  • Facilitating and providing aftercare services.
