Andhra Pradesh Death Certificate

A death certificate is a record of an individual by the State Government declaring a person’s demise officially. The certificate is issued to the nearest relatives of the deceased person that states the date, fact and cause of death. By obtaining a death certificate, a family can avail certain benefits that are provided to the deceased person’s family members like insurance or widow pension. In this article, we look at the procedure for obtaining the death certificate in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the State’s Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969, every death taking place in Andhra Pradesh has to be registered within 21 days.

Purpose of Death Certificate

The death certificate is mandatory to ascertain that fact of death and for relieving the deceased person from legal, social and official obligations. It is essential to register person death immediately on the occurrence of the event. Moreover, it enables the nearest family member of the deceased to claim the pension, insurance, and other benefits. Also, a widower or a widow requires to produce a death certificate of the former partner for future marriage.

Required Documents

The applicant requires to submit the following document along with the application form.

In the case of Medico-legal cases.

  • FIR
  • Form -2 given by concerned police authorities
  • Post Mortem Report

Application procedure

The applicant should visit the local municipals officials or additional magistrate for registration or officials of cantonment board of the State of Andhra Pradesh where the application form is available. Fill up the application form and submit it to the same office. The applicant can collect death certificate at local mee Seva Kendra or mee Seva kiosks. The concerned authority will issue the death certificate to the applicant within seven days from the date of application.
