Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has launched the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana(MSBY) for providing medical facilities at low cost. The aim of this scheme is to provide medical insurance and cashless treatment facility for the needy. The first phase of the scheme was implemented in April 2016 and the second phase in August 2016. This scheme is supervised by the Department of Health and Welfare. In this article, we look at the procedure of enrollment under the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana scheme.
Benefits of Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana
- All the eligible candidates will be able to enrol and get a medical insurance. This insurance will ensure that they get treatment in the selected hospitals for free.
- People belonging to both BPL (Below Poverty Line) and APL (Above Poverty Line) can avail the benefits of this scheme.
- Expenses for the treatment availed under this medical insurance scheme will be provided by the government.
- Apart from the insurance policyholder, a smart card will be providing coverage to the health requirements of the other 5 members of the family for a period of one year.
- A large number of Government and Private medical institutes have been enlisted under the initiative.
Phases of this scheme
The Government of Uttrakhand has implemented the scheme in two phases:

First phase:
During the implementation of this phase, it was announced that the medical policy will provide each registered family with a medical coverage of Rs.50,000.

Second phase:
After the announcement of this phase, the coverage amount was increased from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1.25 lakhs. Also, 458 critical diseases were added to the list of inclusions.

- Residential documents
- Income certificate
- Aadhar card
- BPL Certificate
- Bank Account Details
- Photographs
Registration Process
To avail the benefits of this scheme, the candidates will have to get an application form from the enrollment centres. To get the address of the enrollment centres, the candidate must visit the official website using this link. The candidate must fill all the required details in the form and submit the same along with the required documents at the appropriate office of the authority. The candidates will not be charged any fee for the registration process.
MSBY Smart Card
When the application of a candidate is approved, the entire family will be represented by the Smart Card. This card contains all the bio-metric details of the policyholder. The card can be used in any selected hospitals for acquiring the policy benefits.
Hospitals and Centre List
The scheme can only be implemented in certain hospitals and centers. The candidate may use this link to understand the ones enlisted under the medical insurance scheme.
Check Available Card Balance
A candidate can check the available MSBY card balance by visiting the below link. After entering the website, the candidate needs to specify the URN number and click on the ‘Search post’ button to verify the balance.
