The legal rights of people shouldn’t be determined based on their financial status. As a measure to extend legal assistance to the poor and the needy, the Odisha Government has introduced an initiative known as Madhubabu Aain Sahayatha Yojana. The scheme intends to provide legal assistance at the grassroots level. In this article, we look at the Madhubabu Aain Sahayata Yojana scheme in detail.
Objective of the Scheme
As already described, the scheme intends to provide legal assistance to certain sections of the society without charging them any fee for it. Also, the scheme seeks to create a sense of awareness among the people on their legal entitlements.
Eligibility of the Scheme
The scheme caters to the senior citizens, women, children, and people who belong to the SC and ST community of the state of Odisha.
Features of the Scheme
The following are few of the salient features of the scheme:
- The scheme would legally aid 6812 gram Panchayats across the state.
- The scheme seeks to provide legal advice to the people who qualify for the scheme.
- The scheme would be operated with the assistance of lawyers with a minimum experience of three years. These lawyers would be headed by a panel appointed by the district collector.
- The appointed lawyer will be provided a fee of Rs. 500 for each sitting.
- Gram Rojgar Sevak/Panchayat Executive Officers are entrusted with the management of legal cell. They will be paid a sum of Rs.150 for this service.
- The Government would conduct “Sahayata Shibirs” on every Saturday. “Sahayata Shibir” is a meeting which is conducted to deal with the legal issues of the people covered in the scheme.
Application Procedure
The procedure for application with respect to this scheme is quite unlike any other, as the process for the same is devoid of any major formalities. The concerned applicant merely needs to make an application by taking part in the Sahayata Shibir, which is organized 4 times a month on Saturday’s. After enrolling into the scheme, the State Government will appoint officials to sort out the issues of concern.
