Haryana Scheme for Establishment of Dairy Units

Animal husbandry plays a pivotal role in generating income for the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of Indian economy. In an attempt to enhance milk production in the State and make dairy farming more profitable, the Government of Haryana has proposed to set up hi-tech dairy units in all districts of the State. The scheme for the establishment of hi-tech and mini dairy units will lend out a support to the dairy farmers to substitute the traditional dairying methods with the modern ones thereby enabling them to attain maximum yield. In this article, we look at the Haryana scheme for establishment of dairy units in detail.

Objectives of the Scheme

The main objective of this scheme is to enhance the availability of the milk in the state by increasing its productivity by upgrading and developing valuable breeds/germplasm available in the State. Besides, the scheme intends to impart training for those interested in setting up a unit to supplement their household income.

Features of the Scheme

The scheme for the establishment of hi-tech and mini dairy units is a credit-based scheme where the Commercial banks under Agriculture Finance would finance the commercial dairy units. The Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited (HDDCF) provides the marketing facility of milk. Initially, the State Government has fixed a target of establishing 25 hi-tech dairy units in addition to setting up 1000 mini dairy units of milch animals, allocating Rs.10 crores for the same.

Subsidy for the Scheme

This scheme will release 25% subsidy of the total cost to the savings bank account of the beneficiary for the purchase of milch animals to set a dairy farm.

To establish a mini dairy unit of indigenous cattle, a subsidy at 50% of the unit cost will be transferred to the account of the beneficiary’s savings bank account.

For the establishment of hi-tech dairy units, subsidy in the form of interest subvention on loan (of loan amount not more than 75% of the unit cost) will be given to the beneficiaries of large size dairy unit of 50 milch animals.
