Support for International Patent Protection in Electronics and IT

The International Patent is necessary to be globally competitive which makes the industries more innovative. To protect the Intellectual Property, the Indian SMEs are assisted by the schemes initiated by the Government of India called Support for International Patent Protection in E&IT (SIP-EIT). Due to this initiative, the national filing and international applications from Indian companies significantly improved recently. This scheme is initiated by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology and this article provides details on the same.

Objectives

To enable the SMEs to be globally competitive for producing world-class products by providing financial support for the international filing of Information Communication Technologies and Electronics sector. Also, this initiative conducts IPR awareness workshops as part of the programme. To encourage indigenous innovation and to recognize the value and capabilities of global IP and capture growth opportunities in the area of information technology and electronics.

Financial Assistance

The financial assistance is provided for applying Intellectual Property Rights through budgetary funds.  To the maximum of Rs.15 Lakhs per invention or 50% of the expenses are provided (whichever less). The applicant can opt at any stage of process of international patent filing. The applicant can be an individual and should be an employee or should be in board of the company. There is only one application is possible for one invention and has to be routed through DeitY.

The following details are the level of assitance allotted to the institutes or organization for organizing IPR workshops/seminars. The funding will be restricted as per the following criteria:

3 Societies of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Rs.5 Lakhs

Online Application

To avail the financial assistance, the SMEs can apply online. The applicant has to register in the portal and create login ID. On creating the login, the following documents should be kept ready for online application:

  • Terms & Conditions page duly signed by the applicant
  • Details of Fee payment
  • Other necessary documents
