Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility criteria to obtain a Residence certificate from the Puducherry Government:

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of Puducherry.
  • Women who may not belong to the state by birth, but married to a permanent resident of the state.

Documents Required

Furnish the following documents along with the application status:

  • Birth Certificate.
  • Ration card.
  • Aadhaar card
  • Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or Voter ID card.
  • School records such as Transfer Certificate etc.
  • Employment card / Service Certificate from the Employer.
  • Previous Certificates of the applicant/ Blood relatives, if any.
  • Other proofs.
  • Applicant’s photograph.

Applicable Fee

The applicant does not possess any payment for obtaining Puducherry residence certificate application form.

Validity of Certificate

Residence certificate is valid for a lifetime and hence there is no need for renewal.

Residence Certificate Offline Application Procedure

The following steps have been specified to obtain Puducherry residence/nativity certificate offline:

Step 1: The applicant has to visit the official website of the Puducherry government.

Step 2: Click on “Service menu” which is on the homepage of the portal.

Step 3: Select the “Residence/Nativity certificate” option from the list of services shown.

Step 4: Now the applicant can download the residence certificate application form.

Step 5: Fill up the application form with the appropriate details.


Step 6: Attach the required documents along with the duly filled application form.

Step 7: Now submit the application form to the nearest Deputy Tahsildar office or MRO office.

Step 8: Get a receipt which contains the application number or reference number for further reference.

Residence Certificate Online Application Procedure

To apply for Residence certificate online, follow the steps mentioned here:

Step 1: The applicant needs to visit the official website of the Puducherry government.

Step 2: Click on “Service menu” which is on the homepage of the portal.


Step 3: Select the “Residence/Nativity certificate” option from the revenue department.


Step 4: Then the applicant needs to click on the “Submit online” option.

Step 5: Before applying for residence certificate one needs to register to login into the portal for the first time.

Step 6: On the next page, the application for Residence certificate will open up on the screen.

Step 7: Fill up the application form with correct information and submit it online.

Step 8: Upon submission, the applicant will receive an application number as an acknowledgement to track the status of an application.

Note: After completing all procedure, the applicant has to approach the authorities along with the original documents and then can receive the certificate.

Track Application Status

The applicant checks the Puducherry Residence Certificate application status online by using the official portal.

  • Visit the Puducherry Government official portal.
  • Click on the Application Status option.
  • Status tracking window will be displayed.
  • Enter the Residence Certificate application number and click the search button.
  • Now view the current status of an application can be viewed.
