In Madhya Pradesh, all residents of the state should hold ration card which is issued by the department of food and civil supplies. The objective of the issue of ration card is to implement the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) that provides the essential commodities like rice, wheat, sugar, kerosene, fertilizers, LPG, etc. to its citizens at highly subsidized prices. In this article, we look at the procedure for obtaining Madhya Pradesh ration card.
Types of Ration Card
The Madhya Pradesh Government issues three types of ration cards to citizens depending upon the economic status of the applicant.

1. | BPL (Below Poverty Line) cards. | The BPL cards are provided to the citizens who live below the poverty line, and their annual income is less than Rs. 10,000/- |
2. | APL (Above Poverty Line) cards. | The APL cards are provided to the citizens of Madhya Pradesh who are above the poverty line and have their annual income above Rs, 10,000/- |
3. | AAY cards. | The AAY cards are issued to the citizens of Madhya Pradesh who are very poor and do not have any stable income source. |
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a ration card in the state of Madhya Pradesh, the applicant needs to satisfy the following eligibility conditions.
- The applicant must not already be in possession of a ration card.
- Citizens belong to the economically weaker sections of society.
- Applicants in possession of temporary ration cards or cards past expiry.
- Couples who got recently married in the state can apply for ration card.
Documents Required
The required documents have to be submitted along with the application form when applying for a ration card.
- Proof of your residential address – the electricity bill, telephone bill, water bill, etc.
- Applicant’s identity proof – Voter ID card, Passport, Bank passbook copy, etc.
- Applicant passport size photograph.
- Other documents for details about your LPG connection, details about family members, family income levels, etc.
Ration Card Application Procedure
To register for ration card in Madhya Pradesh, follow the steps below mentioned.
Step 1: The applicant has to visit the official website of Madhya Pradesh Government.
Step 2: Click on “Online-services” option from the Public service agency menu.
Step 3: Then, the list of online services will be displayed, as shown below.
Step 4: Select “New BPL Issuing ration card” from the drop-down list.
Step 5: Now the user has to click on “Click on Download the for” option.
Step 6: After downloading the form, fill it with required details and attach the specified documents.
Step 7: One needs to submit the duly filled form to the Jan Seva Kendra officials.
Step 8: Upon submission, the applicant will receive an acknowledgement number confirming the receipt of your application.
Track Application Status
To check the status of the application online select” Application Statu” on the home page of Madhya Pradesh e-District website. Enter your registration number given on the acknowledgement form, and then the status of your application can be viewed.
Note: The concerned authority will issue the ration card within 30 working days after approval.
