Police Clearance Certificate is an important document which serves as a proof that the person has no criminal record or previously involved in criminal, breach of trust cases or violation of law both in his home country and during his residence. Procedure for obtaining Police Clearance Certificate differs from state to state. In this article, we look at the procedure for getting a Police Clearance Certificate in Kerala.
Police Clearance Certificate Requirement
Police Clearance Certificate is mainly for the following purposes:
- To engage in business abroad
- Obtaining entry visas for certain countries
- Migration to other countries
- Employer’s request
- Joining a Foreign University
- Working as a tourist guide
Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) in Kerala
The Police Department of Kerala issues Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) generally to the following three categories of applicants:
- Direct application in Kerala
- Application from outside Kerala but in India
- Application from abroad
The fee for any Police Clearance Certificate is Rs. 500.
Documents Required for Police Clearance Certificate
Proof of Address: Attested copy of any one of the following:
- Copy of ration card
- Voters ID
- SSLC book
- Passport
- Aadhaar card
- Copy of Bank account passbook
Proof of Identity: Attested copy of any one of these documents:
- Identity card issued by the State Govt. or Central Govt. Institution.
- Passport
- Aadhaar card
- Voters ID
- Driving license
Copy of letter or document showing the requirement for Police Clearance Certificate and passport size colour photographs (3 Nos.)
Kerala Police Clearance Certificate Application
Step 1: Submit the application along with all documents listed above to police station.
Note: A Police Clearance Certificate application can be submitted by the application or someone who is authorized.
Step 2: The fee can be paid in cash at the police station or the DPO wherever required. The applicant can make online payment through the e-Treasury portal or do treasury cash remittance to the appropriate Head of Account.
Step 3: After verification, the Police Clearance Certificate will be issued by the DPC.
Police Clearance Certificate for UAE Visa
The application for the UAE visas for employment will be submitted at the respective police stations and for other categories at the offices of the respective District Police Chiefs.
The SHO (Station House Officer) will conduct verification promptly to prove the identity, the address, and check the involvement in criminal cases. Finally, the SHO will issue the Police Clearance Certificate for the relevant period under his signature and seal within 3 days of receipt of the application.
Police Clearance Certificate be signed only by Inspector SHO or SHO, who should be an officer holding the substantive rank of Sub Inspector.
Police Clearance Certificate Request from Abroad
Applicants who are now residing abroad or outside Kerala and who need a PCC can apply online by downloading the application form from the Kerala Police Website (www.keralapolice.gov.in),
Send the completed form by email to the concerned SHO along with attested copies of the documents as mentioned above and authorization for a relative or other person to receive the PCC.
The applicant can produce the application before the SHO or DPC through an authorized person or body also.
The SHO or DPC after the verification process, will issue PCC and hand it over directly to the person authorized by the applicant to receive the PCC on his or her behalf after verification of the identity of that person.
If the applicant wishes to receive the PCC by electronic means, the PCC duly signed by the SHO or DPC will be scanned as a PDF document and mailed to the applicant in the email specified by him from the official email of the SHO or DPC.
Police Clearance Certificate for Criminal Cases
When it is found that the applicant is involved in a criminal case (other than strict liability offences like traffic offences etc.) within the police station or the District or City jurisdiction or elsewhere, a Police Clearance Certificate cannot be issued.
In such cases, a reply would be issued to the applicant by the SHO or DPC informing that the PCC cannot be issued due to his or her involvement in the criminal case or cases.
