Mizoram Caste Certificate

Caste certificate is a legal document that validates that a person belongs to a particular religion, community and caste. Citizens of Mizoram need to obtain a caste certificate to avail the numerous kinds of facilities offered by the Governments that are targeted at a certain category of persons. Caste certificate is mainly obtained by persons of reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe to establish their candidature, and caste certificate is one of the crucial documents. This article examines the process for obtaining Mizoram caste certificate in detail.

Purpose of Obtaining Caste Certificate

As disclosed above, the caste certificate mainly helps peoples who belong to the reserved categories such as scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST) to avail the below-mentioned benefits:

  • Caste Certificate has to be furnished to obtain the reservation of seats in the Legislatures.
  • Caste certificate is one of the essential document to get the reservation in Government Service.
  • This certificate is mandatory to waiving off the fees for admission to schools or colleges.
  • Caste certificate may be needed to get quotas in educational institutions.
  • To avail upper age relaxation limits for applying to specific Mizoram Government jobs.
  • To apply for certain scholarships sponsored by Government.
  • For obtaining Government subsidies, caste certificate is mandatory
  • For registering the schemes provided by the Government.

To get privileges mentioned above, the citizen of Mizoram who is belonging to an SC/ST must own a valid Mizoram Caste Certificate.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria to get Mizoram caste certificate is described in detail below:

  • Mizoram Caste certificate will be provided to a person who is a resident of Mizoram, i.e. any Mizoram citizen whose birthplace or parents belongs to the jurisdiction of the Government of Mizoram.
  • If the name of the applicant is the statutory list of the SC/ST issued by the Government of Mizoram, then he/she can apply for caste certificate.

Documents Required

Documents required for applying caste certificate in Mizoram are listed below:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Voter ID card and in case of a minor, father’s ID should be enclosed (Attested photocopy)
  • VCP/Local Council Letter (Original) stating that the applicant is tribal.
  • One Passport size photo
  • Application Form
  • Passport size photograph
  • Children born of inter-caste marriages should enclose a certificate from the concerned VCP.

Processing Time

Time Frame to issue the Mizoram caste certificate is 2 to 3 days from the date of application.

Applying Caste Certificate through CSC

Guidelines for applying caste certificate through CSC centre in Mizoram are in detail below:

Step 1: Applicant needs to visit CSC centre to apply for caste certificate through offline mode.

Step 2: Complete the application form by providing information such as name, caste category and the purpose of obtaining the caste certificate, etc.

Step 3: Apply along with all other supporting documents to the CSC service operator.

Step 4: Pay the applicable fee for processing the caste certificate. CSC service person will upload all required documents online for getting approval from DC.

Step 5: Obtain an acknowledgement receipt with the application number. Keep it safe for future reference.

Step 6: Once the application for caste certificate has been submitted successfully, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number regarding the progress of the application. Also, check the status of the application online. (Explained Below)

Once the request for caste certificate has been approved, the DC will issue caste certificate. Revisit CSC centre and provide application number/reference number. Collect the digitally signed Mizoram caste certificate from CSC.

Applying Caste Certificate Online through Mizoram e-District

To apply for caste certificate through online Mizoram (e-District)  portal, follow the guidelines given below:

Note: Before applying through e-District keep scanned copies of all supporting documents.

Step 1:  Access home page of Mizoram e-District portal.

User registration

Step 3:  New user has to login to the e-Pramaan portal for availing certificate services provided by the Government. Register yourself using Aadhar Card, Driving Licence or without any document.

Step 4: After registration, an applicant will receive an activation link to the registered email ID.

Step 5: After activation, login to the e-District portal, select Caste certificate from the services menu.

Application Detail Section

Step 6: Select Certificate type as Caste certificate and then select certificate purpose.

Step 7: Provide all details mentioned below in the application form.

  • Name
  • Name of Father/Mother
  • Occupation
  • Village
  • Circle
  • For whom the certificate is required
  • Caste of family members
  • Caste category
  • Purpose of obtaining

Step 8: By clicking on the save button, the applicant will be redirected to the document uploading section.

Upload Documents

Step 9: Upload all supporting documents as described above.

Step 10: After Uploading the documents successfully, the applicant can make a payment. Check entered details such as certificate type, registration number and all other information.

Payment and Receipt Generation

Step 11:  After uploading the documents, the fee for caste certificate will be shown on the screen, i.e., Rs.20

Step 12: Any of the following modes can pay the fee.

  • Net banking
  • Debit card payment
  • Credit Card Payment

Step 13: Once the fee has been paid, the applicant will be redirected to the acknowledgement receipt page. The receipt will contain the application number. Keep it safe for future purpose.

E-District will send an automatic SMS notifying the applicant about the successful submission with the application number.

Step 14: The application will be forwarded to the District Magistrate of the concerned line department. The relevant authority will issue the certificate after verification. An SMS will be sent to registered mobile about the progress of the application.

Status of Application

The applicant track application status online by visiting the e-District main page. Select ‘Application status’ option.

In the next page, provide application number by clicking on search, the application will be displayed.

Certificate verification

On approving the application of caste certificate, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number as the application has been approved. Verify the Caste certificate through Mizoram e-District portal by clicking on the certificate verification option.

Enter the following details.

  • Certificate Registration No/ Pass Number
  • Applicant’s Name
  • Father’s Name
  • Applicant’s Date of Birth

Click on search to verify the details of caste certificate.  In case any mistake found, contact CSC centre for making correction caste certificate or if applying through e-District portal login to the portal send a request for modification.

Download Caste Certificate

After verification, if concerned authority approves the request for Caste certificate, Mizoram caste certificate can be downloaded online via e-District. Login to the portal again and get digitally signed Caste certificate.
