India Post has initiated an e-Commerce Portal with an aim to provide an online marketplace to small artisans. India Post is leveraging the huge network of Post Offices by providing e-commerce services which include shipping of products through its e-commerce portal under the Department of Posts. Objective

The primary objective of the India Post e-Commerce Portal is to maximize the public access of the postal department range of products and services and enhancing the quality of services at any location in the country. This portal is to encourage rural entrepreneurship and will connect the entire country through this platform. It has been launched by the Department of Posts in order to strengthen the rural economy with the digital and physical connectivity.

Services Provided

The below following are the general services provided under the e-Commerce Portal:

  • Sell Products through e-Commerce Portal: It is proposed that the India Post e-Commerce Portal will provide an e-marketplace to all sellers, especially rural artisans, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and women entrepreneurs. Besides, the state and central public sector organizations and self-governing bodies will also be able to sell products to the buyers across the country using India Post Portal.
  • Purchased Products Delivery: The products that are purchased through the India Post e-commerce portal will be shipped through the postal department’s Speed Post service and delivered within the stipulated time.
  • Return of Items: This online marketplace would also have a policy under which customers can return their purchased products as quoted by the Department of Posts.
  • Seller Registration: The registration process of sellers on the India Post e-commerce portal is of free cost for six months. 
  • Delivery Charges: A separate parcel directorate will decide on the rates of the parcel and other related issues.

The DoP that offers various services such as accepting deposits under Small Savings Schemes, delivering mails, providing life insurance cover under the PLI/RPLI and other retail services such as bill collection, sale of forms etc. The Department of Posts has launched the revamped website for India Post website aims to increase the department’s digital reach across all devices which include also mobile phones. The Department of Posts also acts as an agent for the central government to discharge services for the citizens like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) wage disbursement and old age pension payments. The DoP has more than 1.5 lakh post offices across the country and is the most broadly distributed postal network across the world.

Registration Procedure of India Post e-Commerce Portal 

Following is the complete process of account registration and login at the India Post E-Commerce Portal.

Step 1: The user needs to enter the official Portal of e-Commerce Portal for registration.

Step 2: In the case of a new user, then the user has to log in to the e-Commerce Portal.

Step 3: At the homepage, click on “My Account” link in the main menu to open the “Login/New Registration” page as displayed below:

Step 4: Now click on the “Register Now” button under the “New User? Register Now” dialogue box to open the India Post E-Commerce Portal Account Registration Form.

Step 5: In the Complain Form, the user needs to fill out the following details such as Title, Name/User Id, Address, City, Postal code, State/Country, Mobile Number and E-mail Address.

Step 6: To portal login, the applicant has to enter the login id, password and enter the captcha and then the user has to click on the “Submit” button.

Step 7: After entering all the necessary details accurately and click at the “Save” button to complete the India Post E-Commerce Portal Account Registration process.

Step 8: Upon completing the registration process, the user is eligible to avail India Post Services or Buy Retail Post Products online.

Note: The Internet Banking facility for POSB customers is also been available. This would ensure intra-operability and online fund transfer facility to 17 crore POSB account holders. This portal would also help in the online generation of transaction history. Revamped India Post Website would also facilitate the online opening of new RD/TD accounts and payment of RD/PPF instalments.
