Step 1: Procure a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

To begin, you need to obtain a Class II or Class III Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) from any Indian Certifying Authority like eMudhra, nCode, or Sify. This digital certificate is a secure means of signing your trademark application electronically.

  • Class II DSC: Suitable for individuals.
  • Class III DSC: Required for entities like companies, LLPs, and other organisations.

Once you have your DSC, ensure you install it on your computer following the instructions provided by the certifying authority.

Download and Install the Signing Component:

  • Visit the Digital Signature Manual available on the IP India Portal and download the
  • Signing Component and PKI components. These components are essential for signing your trademark application.

  • After installation, verify that your Digital Signature is properly installed and configured. You will need it to digitally sign your trademark application during eFiling.

Step 4: Register for eFiling on the IP India Portal

Select Applicant Type:

  • Set a Strong Password: Your password must be at least 8 characters long and contain a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numerals, and special characters for better security.
  • Provide Email and Mobile Number: Make sure to enter a valid email ID and mobile number, as these will be used for account notifications and correspondence.

Upload and Register Your Digital Signature

  • After entering your details, you will be prompted to upload your Digital Signature Certificate.
  • Select Your Digital Signature: The portal will ask you to select your installed DSC. Insert your token if required.
