Punjab Domicile Certificate
Domicile certificate is a legal document which is issued by the State Government of Punjab to prove the residential status of an individual in a particular state. In this article, we look at the procedure for obtaining domicile certificate in the State of Punjab.
Purpose of Domicile Certificate
Domicile certificate allows the person to avail various benefits as below:
- To utilize the resident reservation quota in educational institutes.
- To apply for the resident quota reservation in Government services.
- To avail the proof of residence in the state.
Eligibility Criteria
The following are the eligibility criteria to obtain a domicile certificate from the Punjab Government:
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab.
- Women who may not belong to the state by birth, but married to a permanent resident of the state.
Documents Required
The following documents are to be produced by the applicant, along with the application form.
- Proof of Birth (Birth Certificate)
- Copy of Ration Card
- Proof of residence
- Copy of School certificate
- Copy of verification certificate from Municipal counsellor
Fee structure
The applicant can apply for domicile certificate by remitting a processing fee of Rs. 12 per copy.
Online Application Procedure
To register for domicile certificate, follow the steps given below
Step 1: The applicant has to visit the Government website of Punjab.
Step 2: Click on “Citizen login” on the home page of the portal.
Step 3: On the ‘Next’ page, choose “Resident certificate” from the list of services.
Step 4: Then, click on the “Apply online” option, which can be found below the residence certificate.
Step 5: Fill the form with required details and attach the scanned documents.

Note: After submitting your application, the applicant will receive an acknowledgement number to track your application status online. The certificate will be issued within seven working days from the date of application. The certificate once issued is valid for a lifetime. Hence there is no need for renewal.
