KVIC Beekeeping Activity Programme – Gramodyog Vikas Yojana
Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) issued the Operational Guidelines of Beekeeping Activity Under Agro-Based & Food Processing Industries ( ABFPI ) vide a notification dated 09/16/2020. This pilot project is an initiative of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the Vertical Of Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY). The program is launched for the empowerment of the Beekeeper community in the remotest of locations in the country. Under these pilot programs, beneficiaries will be provided necessary Tools and Technical handholding support. The present article highlights the operational guidelines of the Pilot Projects of Pottery Activity Under mineral Based Industry (MBI) Beekeeping Activity.
The objective of beekeeping activity under GVY
The primary objective of introducing the KVIC Beekeeping Activity Scheme under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) is as follows:
- For Utilizing the available natural resources for beekeeping
- To Create sustainable employments in the country
- To Provide supplementary income for farmers
- For Adopting scientific Bee Management practices
- To Create awareness about Honey and other Hive Products
- To create awareness about the benefits of beekeeping in cross-pollination
- To develop linkages with like-minded organizations
Target group
The target group of the Beekeeping Activity under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana is as follows:
- Prospective Beekeepers
- Entrepreneurs
- Farmers
- Unemployed Youth
- Adivasis
- Migrant Workers
Eligibility criteria for beekeeping activity
- The age limit of the entrepreneur should be between 18 to 55 years
- The applicant should have Aadhaar Card, in case of non-availability of Aadhaar Card/Voters ID with photographs and Ration Cards can be submitted
- One person from one family will be eligible for 10 boxes with bee colonies and tools kit (Bee veil, smoker, Knife, and hive tool).
- Persons already trained in beekeeping activity by KVIC/ KVIB /NABARD/KVK(s) /Training Centers recognized by State or Central Government or Bank/ Eligible NGO(s), etc are eligible to get the support boxes
Note: Persons who have availed benefits from any other Government Schemes for the same/similar purpose will not be eligible; the beneficiary shall give a declaration to this effect.
Nature of assistance under beekeeping activity
The Nature of Assistance provided under the Beekeeping Activity Programme is as follows: Under the KVIC Beekeeping Activity Programme, beneficiaries will be provided Skill Training, necessary Tools, and Technical handholding support.
Training for Beekeeper
Under the scheme, The KVIC will provide 5 days beekeeping training to the beneficiary through various Training Centers/SBEC‟s/ Master Trainer:
Normally the Skill Development Training program in Beekeeping is conducted with 25 candidates per batch and the financial expenditures to be incurred.
Handholding Support
After completion of the training, beneficiaries will be supported with necessary technical handholding for the maintenance of bee colonies.
Items Supplied to the Beneficiaries:
Under the scheme, the Government will provide the following items to beneficiaries:
- Ten bee boxes with live bee colonies
- A tool kit (containing a smoker, bee veil, Knife &hive tools)
- C.F. Sheet (One kg CF sheet for each bee colony)
- S.S. honey extractor (One Extractor for five beneficiaries for 50 bee colonies)
Selection of beneficiaries
The field offices will identify the beneficiaries of Beekeeping Activity by conducting the awareness camp or through advertisements as per the annual target allocated for the Scheme.
Field offices will also carry out local publicity for getting the applications from the beneficiaries through the following departments:
- Government Departments
- Directly aided Institutions (DAI)
- KVIB
- NABARD
- Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan (NYKS)
- SC/ST/Minority Finance & Development Corporation
- Ministry of Women & Child Development (MWCD)
- Army Wives’ Welfare Association (AWWA)
- Panchayat Raj Institutions
- State Women and Child Development Corporation
- State Designated Authorities of Agricultural and Horticultural Departments
Preference will be provided to the entrepreneur who is trained in the related activity and profile. As per the scheme, a minimum of 50% preference will be provided to SCs/STs, Women candidates, and BPL category.
The final beneficiaries will be selected by the State level Committee to be constituted for the purpose.
Selection of Pilot Projects through SHG
The Pilot project is proposed by considering the factors like potentiality for beekeeping, backward areas, and Aspirational districts across the country

Training Fee
The training fee of Rs. 1500 per candidate will be paid by general candidates and the training fee is exempted for SC/ ST candidate.
Application Procedure for Beekeeping Activity under GVY
After the advertisement, the applicant (beneficiaries/SHGs) desirous of establishing the Pilot Projects, get training, or technical support need to apply to State/Divisional Directors of KVIC along with the project proposal.
