Indian Institute Of Entrepreneurship

Indian Institute Of Entrepreneurship (IIE) is an autonomous body established in Guwahati, Assam, by the Ministry of Industry (now rechristened as the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), Government of India. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, it seeks to impart training, research and consultancy services in Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs), with entrepreneurship development as its core objective. The Institute commenced its endeavours in April 1994 with the North East Council (NEC), Government of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and SIDBI as its other stakeholders. The Institute has a library and documentation centre, one seminar hall, a guest house, a hostel and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 200. Its offices are located across various states, namely Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya.

Vision and Mission

IIE is established with the vision of being a pioneer in providing quality professional development programmes, research and information services in the field of entrepreneurship promotion/motivation and development and management of MSMEs. Its mission is to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurial endeavours by organizing different types of training programmes, research and other activities for capacity building and enterprise creation with a focus on Northeastern Region (NER).

Objectives

The institute is established to serve the following purposes:

  • Promote and develop entrepreneurship.
  • Conduct research and render consultancy services for entrepreneurship development.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other organizations in performing training, research and other activities to improve the outreach of the institute.
  • Render consultancy and mentoring services to MSMEs/potential entrepreneurs and enhance the employability of participants.
  • Promote increased use of information technology in the activities/functions of the IIE.
  • Comply with statutory responsibilities.

Functions

  • Designing and organizing training for different target groups and conducting research associated with entrepreneurship.
  • Improving the efficiency, effectiveness and delivery of the change agents and developing practitioners.
  • Render consultancy services to the current and future crop of entrepreneurs.
  • Expand the outreach of activities of the institute through collaborative initiatives and increasing its effectiveness by leveraging different tools of information technology.

Scope of Training

The organization provides ATI (Assistance to Training Institutes) and Non-ATI training. Its range of ATI programmes includes the Training of Trainers (TOT) and Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (ESDP). Under the Non-ATI training, the institute conducts 36 modes of training on entrepreneurship within a time-frame of 600 hours to fifteen days by charging minimal or no fee.
