Marriage can be registered either under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Eligibility Criteria

In Gujarat, to obtain a marriage certificate, the following criteria must be fulfilled

  • The bride and groom should not be less than 18 and 21 years of age respectively.
  • The bride and groom must have lived for at least one month in the district where marriage is to be registered.

Documents Required

The required documents are to be produced at the time of registering the marriage.

  • Age Proof – Birth certificate of both bride and groom.
  • Address ProofRation card, Voter ID, Passport or driving license.
  • Address ProofAadhaar card, Pan Card and Voter ID.
  • Photographs of couples (Joint Photo of bride and groom).
  • Affidavits from both bride and groom.
  • Application form.

Government Fee Structure

The applicable charges for marriage registration are listed out:

Period Charges
Marriage certificate obtained within 30 days of marriage. No fees.
Marriage certificate obtained after 30 days but before three months of marriage. Rs. 10/-
Marriage certificate obtained after three months of marriage.  Rs. 50/-

Offline Application Procedure

Follow the steps below to apply for the marriage certificate through offline mode.

To obtain a marriage certificate, the eligible applicant has to visit the official web portal official web portal of e-District Himachal Pradesh. The application form can be downloaded by selecting the “Download Form” option on the portal. The application form is displayed below for quick reference:

Marriage Registration Form

The applicant has to take print out and fill the application form in a prescribed format by enclosing the specified documents. Then the form must be submitted to the Sub Divisional Magistrate, who will provide the applicant with an acknowledgement slip. The marriage certificate is generally issued by the deputy commissioner, and that can be downloaded online as well.

Online Application Procedure

To obtain a marriage certificate online, follow the steps below:

Step 1: The applicant has to visit the official website of Himachal Pradesh.

Step 2: Click on “New Registration” which is displayed on the home page.

Step 3: Now enter the required details of the applicant.


Step 4: Then click on “Register” button.

Step 5: After registering the user needs to revisit the home page to login.

Step 6: Now select the service from the ” list of services” option.


Step 7:  Click on “Apply Online” and then the application form will open on the next page.

Step 8: Fill the form with the details and upload the scanned documents.

Step 9: Finally click on “Submit” button for successful registration.

Note: After submission of application the applicant will be provided with acknowledgement number to check the status of the application.

Track Application status

The status of the marriage certificate can be verified by using the official portal of Himachal Pradesh.

Step 1: Click on the “Track Application Online” option.

Step 2: Enter the Application number and select the “Search” button to view the status of your application.
