Scheme for Financial Assistance to Vocational Training
The Ex-Servicemen Welfare Department under Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat has introduced the scheme for financial assistance to vocational training of widows. This scheme aims to provide financial support of Rs.20,000 to widows of Ex-servicemen (ESM) through vocational training. In this article, we look at the scheme for financial assistance to vocational training in detail.
Background
In the case of death of the husband in an accident or due to natural causes, then the widow is left financially handicapped. In such a case, it is the responsibility of the welfare department to assist the widow in gaining employment through vocational training. The eligible widows can pursue such course in any recognised vocational training institution which is controlled by the RSB/ZSB such as ITI, private training institutions or NIIT etc.
Eligibility Criteria
The following criteria must be satisfied to get assistance for vocational training:
- The applicant must be approved by the respective Zilla Sainik Board (ZSB).
- The applicant must be the widows of an Ex-servicemen of rank up to Havildar or equivalent.
- The applicant should have completed their training.
Note: The applicant should not avail any financial assistance or grant from the state or service relating to vocational training.
Financial Assistance for Widows
The AFFDF (Armed Forces Flag Day Fund) is responsible for allocating funds to the widows of Ex-servicemen. The quantum of assistance will be at the rate of Rs.20,000 on successful completion of vocational training.
Documents Required
The following documents are to be furnished which applying for the scheme:
- Discharge book or documents of Ex-servicemen (ESM) which includes the Ex-servicemen details, personal details, service details and details of the family has to be enclosed.
- Copy of identity card of the widow has to be furnished.
- Certified copy of ZSWO that widow after vocational training is gainfully employed.
- Details of Bank such as the name of bank and branch, account number, IFS Code, Account Number has to be enclosed.
Note: The applicant should maintain a savings account with either PNB or SBI.
Online Application Procedure
To apply for assistance under the scheme, follow the steps given below:
Visit official Portal
Step 1: The applicant needs to access the official website of Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat (KSBS).
Step 2: Click on “Register” (new user) link which is visible on the homepage of the portal.
New User Registration
Step 3: Now, the registration form will be displayed, fill the form with necessary details as shown below.
Step 4: After entering the following detail, click on the “Upload” button to select the photo (image file).
Save the Application
Step 5: Save the application by clicking on the “Save” button and the saved details and password will be forwarded to your registered mail id.
Step 6: Click the activation link which is sent to your mail id to login into the KSB portal.
Provide Login Details
Step 7: Provide user name, password and verification code and click on the “Login “button.

Step 8: After logging into the portal, Select the scheme name and start filling the new application form by providing the required details such as
- Ex-servicemen (ESM) name
- Service number
- Aadhaar card number
- Present Address
- Course details
- Bank details
Upload the Documents
Step 9: By clicking on the “Upload” button, the required documents are to be submitted and then click on the “Save” button.
Step 10: The application reaches the respective Zila Sainik Board (ZSB). But the application will be verified by the ZSWO, and if satisfied in all respects then your application will be forwarded (hard copy as well as in digital format) along with other applications every year, in July directly to the KSB secretariat for payment.
Processing at KSB secretariat
Step 11: On receipt of such applications in the Welfare Section, the section-in-charge will assign these applications to a particular clerk who will access the required data of the applications into the computer.
Step 12: Another clerk will be designated to check whether the data entered is correct or not. The Section-in-Charge will verify the same and upload the printed list to Welfare Section for approval.
Step 13: Such applications will be forwarded for sanction of the concerned authority in one lot, preferably every quarter.
Payment Procedure
Step 14: After approval of the concerned authority, these applications will be processed for payment by the Welfare Section.
Step 15: After checking the ESM’s service number, name, bankers IFS Code and Bank Account Number, the Welfare Section will forward the list for payment to the Accounts Section, which will make the payments directly via Electronic Clearance System (ECS) to the beneficiaries.
Track the Application
The KSB portal facilities the user to track the status of the application submitted online. To monitor the application, follow the steps specified here:
Step 1: Click on “Status of application” link on the homepage of the same portal.
Step 2: Now provide your DAK ID and verification code and then click on the “Search” button.
Step 3: Finally, the status of the application submitted will be displayed.
