The birth certificate is an official document provided to citizens of India, which serves as a proof of identity of a person to avail the services offered by the government. In Himachal Pradesh, every birth has to be registered as per the provisions of Registration of Birth Act,1961. Registration of Birth and Death Act,1961

Every birth and death occurred within the concerned state/UT government needs to be registered within 21 days of its occurrence.  The Chief Registrar of birth is responsible for issuing the birth certificate under the State Government.

Eligibility for Registering Birth

The persons required to register the birth are below:

 The birth has taken place in a house The head of the household or oldest person in the family.

In a hospital or healthcare or other like institutions. Person in charge

Required Documents

At the time of submitting the application form, furnish the following documents.

  • Proof regarding the place of birth (where the child was born) from the hospital.
  • Parent’s identity proof.
  • Marriage certificate of the parent, optional.

Government Fee

The applicable charges for registering a birth certificate are below.

  • No fee is required if registered within 21 days from the date of birth.
  • The applicant has to pay a fee of Rs.2/- if registered after 21 days and within 30 days of birth.
  • The applicant has to pay a fee of Rs.5/- if registered after 30 days and within 1 year of birth.
  • The applicant has to pay a fee of Rs.10/- if registered after one year of birth.

Offline Application Procedure

To register for a birth certificate through offline mode, follow the steps mentioned below: To obtain a birth certificate, the eligible applicant has to visit the official web portal of e-District Himachal Pradesh. The application form can be downloaded by selecting the ā€œDownload Formā€ option on the portal. The application form is below for quick reference.

The applicant has to take the print out and fill the application form in a prescribed format by enclosing the specified documents. Then the form must be submitted to the Commissioner of the corporation / Sub Divisional Magistrate, who will let the applicant with an acknowledgement slip. The birth certificate is generally issued by the concerned authority of the Urban Development Department after verification, and that can also be downloaded from the website as well.

To obtain a birth certificate online, follow the steps below:

Step 1: The applicant has to visit the official website of Himachal Pradesh. Step 2: Click on ā€œNew Registrationā€ which is on the home page. The status of the birth certificate can be verified by using the official portal of Himachal Pradesh.
