The Government is continually formulating policies and making moves to elevate the status of women in the society and to bring about an attitudinal change towards the girl child in the society. Empowering a girl to be an independent woman with social and economic security requires grass root level concern. The government of Madhya Pradesh implemented the Ladli Laxmi scheme in 2007 with the objective to enhance the economic and educational status of the girls. Ladli Laxmi scheme is a comprehensive scheme, which offers financial assistance for a girl from birth till her marriage in instalments.

Financial Assistance under Ladli Laxmi scheme

Initially, the Government purchases a National Savings Certificate worth Rs.6000 for five years for every girl child applied for under this scheme. The girl applicant enrolled under the scheme benefits from the following provisions:

The first instalment of Rs.2000 is made when the candidate is studying 6th standard. While entering the 9th standard, Rs.4000 is provided. Rs.7500 will be given when the candidate is studying 11th standard and an amount of Rs. 200 is issued on a monthly basis during the higher education of 12th grade. Finally, on completion of 21 years, the candidate will be paid a final payment of Rs.1,00,000 if unmarried and desires to pursue higher studies.

Eligibility Criteria for Ladli Laxmi Scheme

The following conditions must be satisfied to be eligible for this scheme.

  • The family of the female child should be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The family should come under below poverty line, i.e., should not be an income tax payer.
  • Maximum of two daughters can be registered under this scheme.
  • The family that has adopted a girl child is also eligible to apply.
  • The first girl child should have born before 1/4/2008.
  • The beneficiary should possess a valid savings bank account.

Application Procedure

The enrollment can be done both online or offline:

Offline Registration

Offline registration should be done within 1 year of birth of the girl child by visiting any Anganwadi Center. The application form which is available in those centres should be filled and submitted along with the documents mentioned.

Online Application

Step 1: The applicant should visit the official website and must click ‘Application’ in the header.

Step 2: ‘Apply through public’ domain should be clicked for the further application process.

Step 3: Once the application form appears, the necessary details should be filled out and the scanned copies of the documents must be uploaded.

Step 4: Finally click the ‘Save’ button, and print the application for further reference.
