Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana
Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana
Madhya Pradesh is considered to be one of the largest Indian states that heavily rely on agricultural practices. The state’s prosperity and revenue come only from agriculture. However, farmers sometimes do not have adequate financial assistance to meet their requirements. Due to this, some farmers take loans from banks and end up failing to repay it to the banks. To remove this burden from the farmer’s shoulders, the Madhya Pradesh government has implemented a scheme called as Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana (JKRMY).
Overview of the Scheme
Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana or Farm Loan Waiver Scheme or Karja Maafi Scheme was announced on December 17th, 2018 by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The scheme received cabinet approval on January 5th, 2019 and is officially launched on 15th January 2019. The project supervised by the Agricultural Development Department of Madhya Pradesh begins the credit waiver program from 22nd February 2019.
Salient Features of Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana
The characteristic features of the scheme are given below.
Development of Farmers and Agriculture
By implementing this scheme, the new state government paves the path for the enhancement of farmers and the agricultural sector.
Total Credit Waiver
The scheme ensures that all the eligible and selected applicants will receive an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs as assistance.
Selected Banks Only
The scheme draft mentions that farmers will be permitted to obtain benefits if the loan is acquired from selective financial institutions. These selected financial institutions include rural banks, nationalised financial organisations and cooperative banks. Farmers who obtained credits from private sector banks are not eligible for this scheme.
Credit Application Date
The state has finalised that those applicants who have applied and acquired credit before the 31st March 2018, will be eligible to attain the benefits. At present, this date has been extended until the 12th of December 2018. Therefore many farmers can become a part of this scheme.
Total Number of beneficiaries
The State Government has confirmed that with proper implementation of the farmer loan waiver project, approximately 55 lakh eligible agricultural labours would be helped.
The state agriculture department has suggested that the Government allocate a sum of Rs. 50,000 crore to reach out to all the eligible beneficiaries.

The scheme is officially launched in the State. The officials in charge of the implementation have not stated about the application procedures. To provide better convenience for the farmers, the enrollment procedures will be carried out in offline mode. Once the details are confirmed, the applicants can approach the nearest agricultural department.
